The rule of thumb is that you have to invest at least 4000 euros for an e-mountainbike fully. It's clear that you won't get as much bike per euro in this price range as in any other. But what do the "entry-level fullys" really do? Has the "break-even point" already been reached here? In tester jargon, this is the point at which investing more no longer brings any real added value. Eight e-bikes compete in this contest, which is all about the best compromise. Which bike makes savings in the right place? And where is the most coherent package overall?
Unsurprisingly, the two mail-order bikes, the Canyon Neuron:On 8.0 and Radon Render 8.0, are particularly strong. The specialist brand Cube also impresses with the Stereo Hybrid 140 HPC Race 625. And yet the three bikes are ultimately very different - and not just because of the differences in the main frame material. Twice Bosch, once Shimano, once Maxxis, twice Schwalbe, twice Rockshox, once Fox. But only one bike was able to win the test. Only one bike scored a strong 347 points in the end. Even the almost twice as expensive E-trail bikes from EMTB 1/20 couldn't do any better in some cases. "Break-even point" for 4000 euros? The EMTB test winner manages the balancing act!
