We invited the Crivit Peak 709 hardtail e-bike for a test ride. But before the first test ride, we had to get the bike out of the box and ready for the trail - just like all of the discounter's customers. We show you how to do it and what you should definitely look out for.

In BIKE 8/25 we were able to test the Crivit Peak 709 against a Canyon Grand Canyon:On 7. The special thing about the discounter's E-hardtail is its low price of just 1799 euros.

For 9.95 euros, discounter Lidl delivers the bike to your home (>> e.g. order here). The bike comes in a sturdy cardboard box and is perfectly protected. All small parts such as the charger and tools are stored in an extra box. As the e-hardtail weighs almost 26 kilos, lifting it out of the box is a feat of strength. It is best if two people tackle it or lay the box flat on the floor and simply pull out the contents.

According to Lidl, the Crivit Peak 709 is 93 per cent pre-assembled. After removing the packaging, the bike is in fact almost ready in front of us. These are the individual steps that still need to be completed on the way to the trail.

1. install front wheel

Before the front wheel can be installed, the transport lock for the brake must first be removed. The front wheel and brake disc can then be easily threaded in and secured with the quick-release axle.

2. straighten the handlebars

Once the front wheel has been installed, the handlebar/stem can be easily turned straight and aligned. Then tighten the two stem bolts.

3. align fittings

The brake and gear levers as well as the remote controller for the motor can be adjusted not only laterally but also at an angle. Make sure the brake and gear lever are within easy reach.

4. inflate tyres

The tyres are only slightly inflated on delivery. This is not yet sufficient for riding. Be sure to top up the tyre pressure before the first ride. 1.3 to 1.8 bar is a good starting pressure.

But please do not over-inflate. 1.3 to 1.8 bar is a good starting value, depending on the rider's weight.Photo: Max FuchsBut please do not over-inflate. 1.3 to 1.8 bar is a good starting value, depending on the rider's weight.

5. screw on the pedals

The pedals have a left-hand and right-hand thread. The pedal marked with an L only fits on the left-hand side and is tightened anti-clockwise when you look at it from the outside. The right-hand pedal is tightened clockwise.

6. check all vital screws

Before I get on a bike that nobody has ridden before, I check the most important bolts. So to be on the safe side, please check the handlebars and stem, as well as the thru axles for the wheels and the brake mounting bolts.

7. remove and charge the battery
