Price and performance are right. With the next-generation Top Fuel, Trek offers a genuine race fully for ambitious athletes.

The Trek has also been completely redeveloped to meet the demands of the target group. Nevertheless, with the Top Fuel, Trek - like Specialized with the Epic - only presents its "second best" bike for this test. The visually interesting design with carbon seat mast is lighter than a frame plus standard seat post. The suspension responds sensitively and has plenty of travel. There are no drive influences and the power transmission is excellent. However, the Top Fuel is not convincing on the stiffness test bench. 49 Nm/degree is a weak value, which manifests itself in a tendency to flutter at high speeds (which doesn't show through on the race track in Bundenthal). Although Trek doesn't impose any weight restrictions, we don't recommend the Top Fuel for heavy riders. The bike received a lot of praise on the circuit. Top marks for handling and top marks for the suspension, the very narrow, low-profile tyres prevented the bike from achieving better lap times. In sector four, the downhill section, Trek took the red lantern. Nothing is missing in terms of equipment, but it doesn't indulge in luxury either. This is available on the top model 9.9 SSL for 5499 euros, unfortunately not yet available at the time of testing.

CONCLUSIONS: Price and performance are right. With the next-generation Top Fuel, Trek offers a genuine race fully for ambitious athletes.
