The former Gary Fisher Superfly bike could be labelled a "classic" twentyniner (if you can even call it that). The slack 69.5 mm steering angle combined with the long wheelbase (1129 mm) makes the Trek more of a smooth-running diesel than a lively high-revving petrol engine. On long marathons, however, a little more flex would do the hard rear end good. Our professional testers preferred to bludgeon the overall balanced Superfly - clutching the perfect ESI grips of the 660 handlebars - downhill rather than pushing it up the steep hiking trail. The reason for the sluggish acceleration was the heavy wheels (3875 g). On the other hand, Trek has packaged the carbon fibre frame in an exemplary manner: plastic protection on the down tube and chain stay, as well as a metal sheet on the bottom bracket.
Conclusionbalanced, hard marathon racer with the classic 29er characteristics.
