In 2015, mail order company Transalp24 was one of the last to test a hardtail with 26-inch wheels. We were extremely excited to see how the bike would perform in the test.

This year, mail order company Transalp24 is one of the last of its kind to test a hardtail with small 26-inch wheels. We were extremely excited to see how this bike would fare against the big competition. When it comes to weight, the Ambition outdoes everyone. The frame, wheels and fork are the lightest, which is honoured in the points classification with a three-point lead over the competition. No other bike in this test group can be accelerated with such ease and manoeuvred around corners with such agility. The short wheelbase and short chainstays explain why. However, despite the good cockpit and comfortable touring position, off-road riding requires experience. This is where the unagitated larger bikes (especially the 29-inch models), where the rider is embedded deeper inside the wheels, really come into their own and offer more reserves.

Test summary of the Transalp24 Ambition Team 4.0 26:

If you prioritise propulsion and sprinting power above all else, the Ambition is the right partner for you. Downhill, there are better alternatives.

PLUS Super propulsion, lowest weight, agile handling
MINUS Few reserves off-road
