A mail-order hardtail for more than 5000 euros? The Koblenz-based direct mail order company has never done that before. But with the limited version of their carbon fibre racer, Canyon didn't focus on price points, but instead packed everything racers could wish for into the stiff 1269 gram frame.

The futuristic RS-1 fork not only attracts attention in the starting block, but also promises ten centimetres of fully usable travel. Compared to the long-running SID, it responds a little more sensitively and is a little less firm through its travel. At the rear, you benefit from almost a centimetre of flex from Canyon's VCLS seatpost, which looks like it has been cleaved with a samurai sword. This ennobles the Grand Canyon as a fully among hardtails. The small frame and the fairly upright riding position turn even winding trails with tight cornering radii into flow trails.

ConclusionThe leaf spring seat post makes the manoeuvrable race bike a fully among the hardtails. If you replace the tubes with milk, you can tweak the acceleration values.

PLUS Manoeuvrable geometry, extremely comfortable, good-natured handling, steering lock limiter, foil on the down tube, quick-release saddle clamp
MINUS Somewhat heavy wheels

The alternative The € 3799 9.9 SL covers a wider range of applications: With the double groupset, the mechanical Shimano XTR and Mavic Crossmax SL wheels, the bike weighs just under 600 grams more.
