Online platforms such as Amazon, Otto and Zalando are posting record sales. Bikes are also increasingly being ordered online. Is it worth buying at the click of a mouse? Six direct mail order hardtails put to the test.

Twenty per cent of our readers now use the keyboard or telephone to buy their mountain bike from the comfort of their own home instead of going to the local dealer. When it comes to accessories, one in two people even go online. These are not vague estimates, but representative figures from our BIKE reader survey with more than 11,000 participants.

After the first part of the 1000-euro hardtails from the specialised trade in BIKE 2/2013 The mail-order alternatives now follow. These six models have to hold their own in the test:

  • Canyon Grand Canyon AL 6.0 (BIKE Tip Allround)
  • Poison cyanide team
  • Radon ZR Race 6.0 SRAM
  • Rose Count Solo 1
  • Serious Bear Rock
  • Transalp24 Ambition Team 5.0 (BIKE Tip Race)

For a direct comparison, we also tested the Canyon Yellowstone AL 6.9 for € 1099. How the entry-level 29er fared in comparison to the 26-inch hardtails, can be found in the PDF download below (all test results and points table).
