Stevens SMC 1 Team
CONCLUSION: a sports bike with luxury features and low weight at a reasonable price.

The Stevens "SMC" also celebrates its premiere in our points comparison test. As the cheapest model in this test group, the top model "Team" gets down to business aggressively. This also applies to the frame price. Stevens glues the one-piece rear triangle to the monocoque main triangle using the tube-to-tube method. The rear dropouts are laminated and riveted. Chainstay and chainsuck protectors are provided and the cables run under the top tube to protect them from dirt. The "Team" frame (1,188 grams) is around 80 grams lighter than the cheaper "SMC Flight ES XT" model (BIKE 10/07) and feels a little more comfortable to ride. This may be due to the cranked seat post, which allows slight vibrations, or the frame layout. The testers described the riding position and handling as "cruiser", in a positive sense, because the bike is absolutely compatible with the masses and does not feel like a neutered race bike. The "Team" version not only looks good (all decals under paint), but also impresses with equipment that leaves nothing to be desired. Even the narrow "XTR Shadow" rear derailleur is part of the specification. With narrow tyres, short suspension travel and narrow handlebars, the setup is clearly aimed at sports use.

CONCLUSION: a sports bike with luxury features and low weight at a reasonable price.

TUNING TIP: Fit wider handlebars.
