The moderate equipment is compensated for by very good handling characteristics.

Specialized has been working on 29ers for a long time and has its own product managers for them. You can feel this in the Stumpjumper Comp: a 29er as it should be. The frame is customised, looks slim and sporty and weighs just 1640 grams. At 11.2 kilos, Specialized wins the overall weight criterion (lightest wheels). The steep geometry ensures just the right handling. "Sit on it, feel good", noted one tester. The bike is stable and secure, yet the steering doesn't feel sluggish, quite the opposite. A look at the equipment shows a wild mix of different manufacturers and low-profile tyres. As with other companies, the gearing is not optimally graded (44/11) and the brake discs are small. Good: five frame sizes available.

ConclusionThe moderate equipment is compensated by very good handling characteristics.
