BIKE ASSESSMENT: With marathon world champion Christoph Sauser, Specialized has the tuning master under contract. So what could be more obvious than to send us a "Sauser Epic"? The bike has proven its suitability for racing with the World Championship title, so we don't presume to claim the opposite (although the double gear ratio, narrow tyres and aluminium discs are absolutely not suitable for everyday use). In any case, the handling is extremely nimble. However, like Scott, Specialized has designed the regulations somewhat to suit itself. The paintwork is missing, some parts come from the factory - but theoretically everything could be reproduced. Sauser's race bike varies between 8.9 and 9.2 kilos, depending on the setup and choice of tyres.
All-round value/suitability for everyday use²: restricted. Only for experienced (racing) drivers.
