After the internal Transalp duel between 26- and 29-inch scale (BIKE 9/10->), we were eager to see how Scott's new 870 gram frame would fare in a test of strength on the race track. The impressions of the racers fit seamlessly into our picture: the balanced geometry ensures a considerable feel-good factor after just a few starts. No wonder: Swiss rider Nino Schurter won the overall World Cup on the lightest production frame in the world. This expertise from the collaboration with the professional team is reflected in our points table: none of the bikes scored as consistently high in all categories as the Scale.
Thanks to its 8.65 kilos and balanced riding position, the top RC model was one of the best climbers both uphill and downhill: the Scale offers sufficient reassuring reserves, especially in difficult passages. With the sensitive XRM fork from DT, the front end absorbs even small bumps with ease. Only the lack of a protective film on the down tube and the 2.1 tyres mean that the Scale doesn't reach the record value of last year's winner.
ConclusionLightest frame in the world and therefore a high-end racer that doesn't need to hide behind the Cannondale Flash. Although the Scott is a kilo heavier than the Cannondale, it is a whopping 3000 euros cheaper!
