The 930 aluminium version of the Vertex is the Canadians' entry into the sporty 29er range. With the same geometry as the carbon racer, you sit relatively stretched out on the 2.1-kilo chassis. The wide handlebars, a low front and a 70-degree steering angle ensure high directional stability in rough terrain. Uphill, the Rocky lacks a little liveliness due to its high overall weight. However, the super-fast and well-damping Conti tyres (Race Sport version) tickle everything out of the wheels. The wide, comfortable saddle promises plenty of comfort on long rides. As expected, Rocky lags behind its mail-order competitors in terms of equipment. In return, you get a stylish, modern frame with cult lettering on the down tube.
ConclusionThe aluminium version of the race classic compensates for the equipment disadvantage with a sporty riding position and smooth, unagitated handling.
PLUS Good tyres, sporty geometry, good cockpit
MINUS Heavy frame, weak equipment
