Most people know that e-bike tuning is not permitted or only permitted within the law. However, it is rare for an e-MTB to be too fast for road traffic ex works. For this reason, Cube is now recalling a variant of the Reaction Hybrid Rookie. More precisely, it's about the CUBE Reaction Hybrid Rookie SLX 400 Teamline 2023 27.5 (XS / 13.5").
According to the manufacturer, the XS model with 27.5-inch tyres has wheels that are too small for the motor used, the Bosch Active Plus Cruise Youth Edition. As a result, the bike travelled faster than the maximum permitted speed for motorised bikes.
Although only a few licence holders are likely to ride the XS MTB from Cube, in the worst-case scenario they could actually lose their licence if they are caught riding the Reaction Hybrid Rookie in traffic. For this reason, Cube is now recalling all affected bikes. Customers should take their bikes to their Cube dealer. Alternatively, Cube customer service can help with any queries.
