The only mail-order bike in the test field plays to its strengths: The highest quality fork, a strong spec with a ten-speed XT rear derailleur and a solid overall concept make the Radon the test winner.

At 12.9 kilos, it is also the lightest bike in the field and therefore a willing climber that is also fun on long tours. The geometry is more cosy than racy and stretched. Downhill, the 29er scurries agilely over the trail, the tyres and the sensitive suspension fork make the bike confident off-road. Those who like to chase best times uphill might wish for a longer top tube and a lower front end. The frame is neatly finished, of high quality and even has internally routed shift cables. Unfortunately, these are exposed under the bottom bracket and are fully exposed to dirt. Caution mail order: Beginners in particular need to be aware of their mechanic skills and decide whether they can manage without an on-site service.

Conclusionbalanced touring bike with strong equipment, low weight and no real weaknesses.

PLUS Equipment, potent tyres, light, fork, 10-speed
MINUS Shift cables are exposed at the bottom bracket

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
