For some time now, professionals such as Johannes Fischbach (downhill), Elisabeth Brandau (cross country) and Raphaela Richter (enduro) have also been at the forefront of international competitions on Radon bikes. The "Race" suffix in the name of our test bike also sets the direction for the area of use and is reflected in parts such as the Crossride Light wheels and the Rock Shox Sid fork. It is all the more pleasing that the bike also performs well in all-round use. Overall, it offers the best compromise between the art of climbing and downhill fun. The ZR Race also shines with the highest quality equipment (Shimano XT including brakes and cassette) and the best price/performance ratio in the test field due to the 2016 discount. That's all you need to have fun. The bike is also visually harmonious down to the last detail: neatly drawn weld seams connect the striking tubes. When you sit on the saddle, the short stem and the comfortable riding position are the first things you notice. This makes bikers feel just as comfortable on winding race tracks as they do on long tours. On descents, the ZR Race rides calmly and under control - the short stem and wide handlebars provide security. The frame is stiff and transmits impacts unfiltered to the rider's rear end - a noticeable difference to the comparatively comfortable Transalp. The fork is also typically firm for racing and therefore bobs less than the Rebas in the test field. Annoying: The inadequate chainstay protector increases the noise level on the trail and causes the stays to age more quickly.
Tobias Brehler, BIKE tester:
The Radon is a successful all-rounder and impresses with great equipment and balanced handling. Racers and sporty touring riders alike will be happy with the ZR Race. Top: As an alternative to home delivery, you can also collect your bike ready to ride directly from one of the so-called megastores or from one of the numerous service partners.
