Instead of the comfort-orientated standard brother ZR Team 7.0, we requested the sportier € 999 version for this test. With a 69 degree head angle, shorter chainstays (419 instead of 423 millimetres) and a longer top tube (583 instead of 571 millimetres), the riding position and handling are significantly sportier. Especially on technical downhill trails, the testers were able to really let rip with Schwalbe's grippy Nobby Nic, the wide 680 mm handlebars and the powerful Formula RX brakes. Compared to the Canyon, the ZR Race is a tad weaker on the climbs, but a tyre width ahead on the descents. Only the chainrings of the Race Face cranks don't shift as quickly at the front as a comparable Shimano or SRAM product.
ConclusionAn all-round harmonious package with great riding characteristics - especially downhill - and high-quality components.
+ Lightest bike
+ Good driving characteristics
+ Good brakes
- Front shift quality
