This is accompanied by a 20 mm longer wheelbase and a slightly lower bottom bracket. On the trail, the ZR Race 7.0 rides much smoother than its predecessor. The Bonn-based company has taken our criticism to heart. The handling is now flawless, as is the equipment. The triple XT drivetrain is paired with a Race Face crankset, the Ergon grips provide a comfortable grip on the handlebars and the Fox fork works flawlessly on root passages. Only the Magura brakes could be a little firmer, and a 180 mm disc on the rear wheel could help. The Mavic Crossride wheels are not super stiff and could be problematic for heavy riders.
ConclusionRadon has effectively reworked the ZR Race and for 1299 euros has put a hardtail with a lot of riding fun on its wheels.
PLUS Largely internally routed cables, high-quality grips
MINUS Moderately stiff wheels (watch out for heavy riders!), short 350 mm seatpost
The alternative: Although the wheels of the ZR Race 27.5 7.0 are one size smaller, it is 300 grams heavier according to Radon. The 27.5 mm version is fitted with Shimano stoppers. The price remains at 1299 euros.
