Starting at 1300 euros, you have the choice between 29 and 27.5 inches. However, you won't recognise too many sports genes in the twelve-kilo bike. Instead, the good-natured downhill rider satisfies the preferences of demanding touring riders: the comfortable riding position is easy on the back muscles, the smooth handling doesn't let you get rattled even in twisty zigzags or on descents and with the chunky Nobby Nic tyres, even the dampest, rooted ground becomes a playground. Only the acceleration suffers under the almost five-kilo giant tyres. But on tour, puncture resistance counts more than best time and maximum speed anyway. If the ZR Race still climbs too slowly, you can replace the rear tyre and fit lighter tubes.
ConclusionDownhill, nobody can hold a candle to the good-natured touring 29er with good equipment.
PLUS Good-natured handling, outstanding tyre grip
