Almost anything is possible in the in-house "Giftmischer" configurator - as our test bike with racing 1x11 gearing shows. This claim is emphasised by the lightweight 29er wheels with Conti's Black Chilli formula, which accelerate with ease. In terms of geometry, the Zyankali looks a little dusty, the head angle could be a little slacker and the chainstays a little shorter. On the trail, it's difficult to put enough pressure on the front wheel. In contrast to the XT stoppers on the Cube, the SLX brakes decelerate flawlessly and with bite. Despite the thru-axle, the Recon fork can't keep up with a Reba. But that's where the configurator comes into play: a Reba costs 200 euros extra.
ConclusionSporty equipment meets touring-orientated geometry. The Zyankali doesn't quite know whether it wants to be a racer or a tourer.
PLUS Lightweight wheels, SLX brakes with external lever travel adjustment, thru axle at the front
MINUS Weak gear range, only three frame sizes, externally routed, non-continuous cables
The alternative: Poison's configurator makes everything possible. If you still want to fall back on bar stock, the Zyankali 29 Shimano Plus is an alternative with triple gearing. The price remains the same.
