Marin Bikes has given its Team Marin 1 and Team Marin 2 hardtail models a comprehensive overhaul. Both models have been equipped with a Series 4 aluminium frame, which is designed to offer greater stability and lower weight thanks to hydroforming of the tubes - especially the seat stays. These innovations are intended to increase the versatility and riding fun that the Predecessor models (tested here) characterised.
The geometry of the new Team Marin models has been modernised to increase efficiency on climbs and offer more confidence off-road - as the US manufacturer describes it.
Completely internal cable routing ensures a clean look and protects sensitive parts. The new UDH derailleur hangers are compatible with current standards, which makes handling easier and future-proofs the frame.
The Team Marin 1 is equipped with a Rockshox Judy Silver suspension fork, which offers 120 mm of travel. The drivetrain is specced with a Shimano Deore/Sunrace 12-speed drivetrain, while hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano provide the necessary deceleration.
The Team Marin 2, on the other hand, relies on a Fox 34 Step Cast suspension fork (120 mm) and a Shimano XT/SLX 12-speed drivetrain, which is aimed at higher performance. Both models are available in frame sizes S, M, L and XL and roll on 29-inch tyres.
While the Team Marin 1 should convince with its solid equipment and a favourable price of 1599 euros, the Team Marin 2 with its high-quality Fox 34 Step Cast suspension fork and Shimano XT/SLX 12-speed drivetrain is aimed at ambitious riders. The difference in the suspension fork and the gearing is also reflected in the price: the Team Marin 2 costs 2749 euros.
Compared to the previous model, which impressed in tests with its compact riding position and precise steering, the new models are to offer improved geometry and technical specifications. The modern seat angle (now even steeper by 0.2°) and the short stub stem design of the Team Marin 1 from the test have been retained in favour of an active riding style.
To give the bike even more confidence and smoothness on steep terrain, the head angle of the new Team Marin has been slackened to 66.5°. Thanks to the optimised geometry and improved components, the new model could offer an even more versatile riding experience.
