New: e-Prime hardtail from Mondraker
Mondraker is expanding its e-mountainbike range for 2017. In addition to the old acquaintances, there is a new hardtail: the e-Prime - available in carbon or aluminium.

All Mondraker e-bikes have a few things in common: they roll on wide Plus tyres, as the Spanish developers are convinced of the advantages of wide tyres for electrified mountain biking, and they are all powered by Bosch motors. All e-models also feature Mondraker's Forward Geometry. This means that the top tube grows and the stem shrinks at the same time. Even if the reach looks nominally very long (e-Prime in size L 480 millimetres), the bikes do not mutate into a stretching bench thanks to the stubby stem. The longer wheelbase is intended to improve smoothness and the front end is shifted forwards to banish the feeling of rolling over.

Mondraker has designed a completely new carbon hardtail for next season. Like all other Mondraker e-bikes, it also rolls on 2.8-inch wide Plus tyres. At the front, a 120-millimetre fork absorbs shocks, while special seat stays - called "FlatStays" - are designed to increase comfort at the rear. A powerful Bosch Performance CX drive with a 500 Wh battery provides sufficient propulsion. The new carbon frame also meets all current standards. Four sizes from S to XL are available.

How do you like this article?

The top model of the e-Prime Carbon boasts high-quality equipment: Rock Shox RS1 suspension fork, Reverb Stealth seatpost, Sram Guide RSC brakes and Sram EX1 gears. The Maxxis tyres are mounted on DT Swiss rims. At 18.3 kilograms, the e-Prime RR+ should be able to shake up the e-hardtail class. However, the price of 6999 euros is a big hole in the wallet.

The cheaper carbon version has a Rock Shox Reba RL suspension fork, Sram Level T brakes and a Sram GX ten-speed drivetrain. The weight of 18.9 kilograms is also impressive. Price: 4399 euros.

Mondraker e-Prime

The e-Prime is the aluminium counterpart to the e-Prime Carbon. Both the features (Boost, 27.5 Plus, Forward Geometry) and the geometry are the same. However, the buyer has to make compromises when it comes to the drive: Only Bosch Performance drives are used in the aluminium hardtail.

The higher-quality aluminium model impresses with its sophisticated equipment: Rock Shox Reba RL suspension fork, Sram Level T brakes and Sram NX1 eleven-speed drivetrain. The weight also sounds promising: according to Mondraker, it should only weigh 19.2 kilograms for 3499 euros.

The entry-level version of the e-Prime is damped by a Rock Shox Recon Silver, a groupless Shimano brake decelerates and a gear mix from Sram changes gears. It is said to weigh 19.5 kilograms and cost 2999 euros.

Mondraker e-Crafty XR+

The e-Crafty XR+ is the most downhill-orientated of all Mondraker e-MTBs: a Fox Float X controls the 140 millimetres of travel at the rear, a massive Fox 36 Talas the 160 millimetres at the front. Also from Fox: the new Transfer Vario seatpost. Sram Guide R brakes provide the necessary deceleration, while the EX1 eight-speed drivetrain changes gears. A Bosch Performance CX drive provides sufficient support. You can call the e-bike your own for 6399 euros.

The R+ is not quite as downhill orientated as the more expensive XR+. It comes with 140 Rock Shox Yari and Monarch Plus. Sram also supplies the Level T brakes and GX drivetrain. As with its bigger brother, Mondraker also relies on the Bosch Performance CX drive. The 21.8-kilogramme all-mountain costs 4999 euros.

Mondraker e-Vantage RR+

The e-Vantage will simply have a new design and different parts for the next season. At the front, a Fox 34 Float suspension fork with 140 millimetres damps the rider of the 20.4-kilogram trail hardtail. Mondraker has also fitted a Fox Transfer Vario seatpost for more riding fun. The Level brakes and GX gears are supplied by Sram and the Performance CX drive by Bosch. Cost: 4699 euros.

There is also an e-Vantage R+ with slightly more favourable equipment for 3699 euros. It features a Rock Shox Sektor Silver suspension fork. The drive, brakes and gears are (almost) identical to the more expensive e-Vantage RR+ and the weight is also the same.

Mondraker e-Tank R

A Bosch Performance CX drive also powers the "electric tank" so that it can go anywhere. A Rock Shox Bluto with its 120 millimetres of travel provides some damping in addition to the suspension of the wide rollers. A Sram Guide brakes the tank and the XT/SLX gear mix shifts the gears. For 3999 euros, you can buy what is probably the lightest "tank" at 21.5 kilograms.
