Hardly any bike ages better than a titanium hardtail. And when it’s as beautiful and unique as the Mosaic MT-1, time seems to stand still. A mountain bike like this never goes out of fashion: we’ve found out what makes the Mosaic MT-1 so special.

Topics in this article

The Mosaic MT-1 defies the logic of constant improvement and the dependence on trends in the mountain biking scene, yet remains modern nonetheless. It is aimed at cyclists who would rather ride than ponder the next steps in development, and who appreciate a titanium frame made in the USA. To ensure that this lightweight metal continues to appeal to customers even after many years, they can choose from a range of exciting designs – from classic to colourful and bold. The Mosaic MT-1 is here to stay.

Conclusion

There are plenty of titanium hardtails out there. What makes the Mosaic MT-1 special is that riders can choose between off-the-shelf or custom geometries. The fact that it’s manufactured locally in Colorado is definitely a highlight. I’m a big fan of the Artist series. If you’re going to paint a titanium frame, then please do it as artfully and uniquely as Mosaic does! - Jan Timmermann, BIKE editor

Titanium MTB made in the USA

Mosaic Cycles was founded in 2009 by Aaron Barcheck in Boulder, Colorado, and has since made a name for itself as a manufacturer of high-quality, bespoke bicycles. The company set out with the aim of combining the art of handcrafted frame-building with modern cycling technology. Mosaic is particularly well known for its bespoke titanium frames, which are handcrafted and tailored to the individual needs of each rider. Over the years, the company has expanded its range to include steel and carbon models and has developed bicycles for a variety of uses – from road bikes to gravel and all-road bikes, right through to mountain bikes. The combination of precision manufacturing, bespoke designs and American craftsmanship has become a central feature of the brand.

A hardtail for every occasion

The Mosaic MT-1 is neither a specialised race bike nor a high-tech trail bike. With a titanium frame and a fork offering 120 to 130 millimetres of travel, it is designed to be lightweight whilst still delivering impressive off-road handling. The hardtail is designed for 29-inch wheels and 2.4-inch tyre width. A post-mount brake mount and UDH derailleur hanger standard ensure compatibility with modern mountain bike components. A bolted bottom bracket and externally routed cables are designed to ensure ease of maintenance.

Customers can either choose from pre-configured frame geometries or opt for a bespoke frame. The standard options, which are pre-produced in batches, are available within two to three weeks, whilst the bespoke version takes at least eight weeks. Cyclists can have their basic bike-fitting data taken directly by Mosaic or by a partner. With the bespoke geometry, customers can be sure that the titanium hardtail will fit them one hundred per cent perfectly. However, even the standard geometry incorporates modern specifications, such as a 67-degree head angle and reach values between 420 and 495 millimetres.

Mosaic offers three design options for the MT-1. The classic titanium look focuses on the raw metal. The design of the logos is also tailored to the customer’s wishes. Unlike many other manufacturers, Mosaic also offers the option of painting the titanium frames. There are many layouts to choose from, but individualists can also create their very own design. The MT-1 Hardtail becomes particularly exclusive with a finish from the Artist series. Here, artists who specialise in the finishing of bicycle frames give free rein to their creativity. However, the designs can also be reproduced and change with every new season.

What do you think: is it OK to paint a titanium frame, or do you prefer the classic metal look on a hardtail MTB? Let us know in the comments!
