Moots has been running a small but excellent titanium forge in Colorado since 1981, which only produces around 1,000 frames a year. By specialising in this material, they can offer something that others cannot: eight frame sizes (from 17 inches upwards for 100-millimetre forks), special requests such as single-speed dropouts and even a bike that can be folded using screw connections. The "Rigor Mootis" test bike looks correspondingly unusual. It comes with V-brakes, super-light wheels and an unconventional geometry. Shallow angles, a high bottom bracket and quite long chainstays look atypical for a hardtail. The frame is stiff but comfortable (titanium seat post!).
CONCLUSIONMoots appeals to real fans who are looking for a customised bike. That has its price.
