A sensible alternative to the 1500 euro more expensive top model. A thoroughbred racing machine that scores with the same handling characteristics as the World Cup racer.

Instead of inviting the 7000 euro model with SRAM XX to the test, as we did last year, we were curious to see how the 1500 euro cheaper (but one kilo heavier) alternative would fare. The result is impressive: Like the top model - which has been able to call itself a world champion bike since José Hermida's recent success - the 0.Nine again manages to pick up the BIKE test rating of "Super", albeit narrowly. Merida owes this to the balanced geometry, which cuts a fine figure both uphill and downhill and scores highly.

The 70 mm head angle and the wide 660 mm riser handlebars provided a lot of control on the downhill section of our test ride. The 100-millimetre DT Swiss fork absorbs bumps sensitively. A "good compromise between a modern riding position and agile riding characteristics", attests professional Kurschat to the 0.Nine. Just like in last year's test, the Merida is one of the most comfortable racing bikes in the field. A special carbon fibre seatpost gives the 0.Nine noticeable flex and victory in this special category. Instead of the triple cranks as on our test bike, racers will opt for the new 2x version. Only the 3438 gram XTR wheels spoil the overall picture a little.

Conclusion: A sensible alternative to the 1500 euro more expensive top model. A thoroughbred racing machine that scores with the same handling characteristics as the World Cup racer.
