Manoeuvrable hardtail: Conway eMR 427 on test
With its smaller 27.5-inch wheels, the eMR 427 has almost exotic status in the test field, which is positively noticeable in its manoeuvrable riding style.

If the terrain becomes more demanding, the rider has to invest considerably more to keep their bike in check. The steep steering angle also contributes to this. The brakes could also do with a little more power. The steel suspension fork responds sensitively, but can hardly be adjusted to the rider's weight and rushes through the suspension travel for heavier riders. On the climbs, the Bosch Performance CX motor pushes powerfully as usual and the Conway climbs well. The grippy Nobby Nic tyres reliably transfer the power to the ground. However, we would have liked a shorter gear ratio for more relaxed pedalling on steep ramps. All in all, the cheapest bike in the test field offers a solid spec, but can't quite keep up with its more expensive rivals. Tip: The Conway is also available with 29-inch wheels.

Conclusion: Manoeuvrable hardtail with solid equipment and powerful Bosch drive for moderate tours. Cheapest bike in the test field!

Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
