Less elaborate fibre layouts and a few grams more weight distinguish the Aera models from the top carbon frame Myroon. KTM offers both models as 27.5-inch (also in 15-inch) and 29-inch models. As you would expect from the Austrians, the geometry of the Aera is based on racing. A long top tube helps to achieve an aerodynamically stretched riding position. Of course, a handlebar lockout lever is a must. For steep ramps and long climbs, however, the seat angle should be a little steeper. Tip: Mount the seat post with a straight head. The complete Shimano SLX groupset ensures lightning-fast gear changes and precise deceleration. The Shadow Plus rear derailleur of the XT prevents chain slap on bumpy downhills. You have to allow for one more stop on the marathon as there is no hole for a second bottle cage. Good: lots of flex/comfort thanks to the slim seatpost.
Conclusion: Sensibly equipped carbon 29er for hobby racers on a budget. Alternatively, the 27.5-inch model saves even more weight.
PLUS Sensible equipment, Shadow Plus rear derailleur, SLX brakes
MINUS Flat seat angle, only one bottle cage
