Nothing must, everything can: Just do it is the motto! We dedicate an extra 48-page issue to gravel bikes.

You can compete in tough races on gravel tracks on a gravel bike - but you don't have to. You can circumnavigate the world on it, but an uncomplicated weekend tour is also great fun.

The gravel bike opens up new paths and perspectives. You can incorporate the gravel path through the city park into your after-work ride as well as the passage over cobblestones through the industrial area and the trails along the riverbank, because versatility is key. Gravel bikers don't have to get out into the countryside before the fun begins. But once you are out in the countryside, there are hardly any limits to the fun, because the gravel bike gives you plenty of freedom. Fast hunts on gravel motorways, contemplative dawdling through fields and forests or micro-adventures with light luggage and overnight stays: the gravel bike is ready for anything and signals - just do it!

You can download the complete gravel special BIKE 9/2021 as a PDF below the article. The 48-page special costs 4.99 euros.

Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in BIKE. We don't charge for them, but the opposite is the case: we do charge for them - tens of thousands of euros every year.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
