The GT "Zaskar" is the archetype of the hardtail. It was used to win races in cross country, 4-cross, dual slalom and downhill. The legendary "Triple Triangle" frame design has now been around for 20 years, so it's high time for an update: curtain up for the "Zaskar" in carbon. The frame is manufactured in one piece using monocoque technology, has a half-matt, half-polished surface and has been given the nickname "Stealth Bomber".
The design is not at the forefront in the race for the lowest weight, but it does have the most comfortable characteristics both on the trail and in the lab. This is due to the crossing of the seat stays into the top tube, the aluminium seat post and the comfortable saddle. Shifting and braking are handled by Shimano's "XTR" groupset; the lightweight "XTR" wheels with narrow Kenda tyres ensure fast acceleration. However, the setup has a catch: the fitted superlight tyres were flattened at the front and rear during a test lap. Good: Screw-in grips, wide handlebars, smooth downhill ride. It loses points for paintwork and warranty.
CONCLUSION: This classic model shines with its driving comfort and unique look.
TUNING TIP: Fit wider tyres, replace thin tubes.
