Focus Raven
Focus is putting its Raven race hardtail on big wheels. Three models from € 1,999 are based on the same carbon frame.

Visually, the Cloppenburg-based company has probably put one of the most beautiful 29ers of the 2012 season on its feet. The suspension comfort at the rear, which comes from the wide, flat seat stays, is clearly noticeable. The post mount is elegantly integrated into the rear frame triangle. Internally routed cables ensure a clean look. A fine detail: the frame even has an internal guide for a dropper post. The 69.5 degree steering angle guarantees a smooth ride. The gear ratio with 42/27 teeth at the front makes even trained marathon riders break out in a sweat on steep climbs. The stylish Cobalt 3 wheels from Crank Brothers look perfect, but could offer heavier riders a little more stiffness. The K-Force Carbon cranks, seatpost and handlebars keep the weight down and match the elegant look of the € 4899 top model.

ConclusionIndependent, stylish and comfortable 29er hardtail for racing and marathon use.
