The Focus Raven Extreme is launched with a completely new frame platform and has many a successful detail solution at the ready. This gives the bike a unique, tidy look. The gear cables and even the brake line run through cable tunnels that have been integrated into the sides of the top tube and down tube and are also intended to increase rigidity.
Our lab results also confirm that the frame, which is slightly overweight in this tough test field (1267 grams), is very stiff, but without breaking any records. From SRAM's XX groupset including the SID-XX fork to DT carbon wheels and FSA carbon parts with a good cockpit, the Raven is brimming with the finest parts.
Accordingly light-footed and equipped with a low front end, the Focus climbs willingly and also cuts a fine figure on descents. Thanks to the 70.5 mm head angle and the large saddle rake, the Raven is more of an agile athlete than a relaxed bike for marathons. With a thick 31.6 millimetre seatpost, the riding comfort lags behind the best. On the other hand, the rear triangle offers plenty of room for fat tyres up to 2.4 inches and mud attacks.
CONCLUSION: a successful performance. The Raven Extreme is a well-balanced race bike with good handling, impeccable equipment and a beautifully finished frame, although at 3000 euros it is very expensive.
