Focus Black Forest 4.0
The Black Forrest from Focus is a good-natured tourer with XT equipment. The fork and weight put pressure on the riding pleasure.

If points were awarded for looks, we would have scored the entry-level model of the Black Forest with its red outer shell in the top ranks. But in the test, it's the inner values that count - and they say: 2241 grams for the frame and a total weight of 12.55 kilos make a top ranking impossible. Instead of the XT groupset, which is complete except for the shifters, the Focus would have looked better with a higher quality fork. The XC30 steel spring fork already reaches its limits with the fine adjustment. Downhill, this dull impression becomes even more pronounced, especially as the weak Tektro stoppers demand a cautious riding style. In principle, the moderate geometry with smooth handling is ideal for touring riders, but the weight and fork performance limit the choice of touring bike.

PLUS Almost complete XT drivetrain, harmonious look
MINUS Worst/heaviest fork, weak brakes, heaviest frame

Tuning tip Spacer over the stem; large rear disc

Conclusion: Good-natured tourer with XT equipment. Fork and weight reduce the riding pleasure.
