Titanium is by no means old school. Falkenjagd brings technical terms into play that make you sit up and take notice: 29 inch, hydroforming, post mount, thru axles.

With the Hoplit RS, the young Munich-based company has created a hardtail that combines modern standards with the timeless material. The frames are also manufactured to this unusual specification in Bavaria and made to measure - enough reasons for a test. In our laboratory, the 2690 euro frame shows the highest stiffness value (80 NM/degree) compared to all titanium frames measured to date. With the thru-axle, the frame weight is relatively high (1.8 kilos), but the super-light wheels with FRM rims and Tune hubs save weight. At a total of 3.3 kilos, they significantly undercut standard 26-inch wheels. The comfort measurement results in a high value (6 mm) - thanks to the flexing titanium seatpost.

On Munich's root-ridden Isar trails, every millimetre of flex is welcome on a hardtail - at least vertically. Horizontal frame twisting - a weakness of most titanium frames - does not occur on the Falkenjagd, the design concept works. The riding characteristics are very good. You don't feel that you are riding a 29er, there is no inertia, which is also thanks to the light wheels and geometry.

Conclusion: a dream for hardtail fans. The Hoplit offers everything you could wish for. New technology, large wheels, very good riding characteristics. A great but timeless investment. Available as a frame kit or complete bike.
