Bosch has almost completely taken over the e-bike motor market. Merida offers an alternative with the Shimano STePS in its Big Seven eLite.

With the Big Seven eLite, Merida is adding a new e-hardtail to its programme for the 2016 season. The most unusual features of the eLite are the Shimano StePS motor and the battery with a capacity of 418 watt hours. Although the Merida comes in three equipment variants, the better two are particularly suitable for off-road use.

The cheapest bike with SR Suntour XCM and Tektro brakes is more at home on moderate forest trails, while the two more expensive variants also have the necessary hardware for real trails. The Merida Big Seven eLite costs between 2249 and 3249 euros.

Adrian Kaether's favourite thing to do is ride mountain bikes on bumpy enduro trails. The tech expert and bike tester knows all about Newton metres and watt hours, high and low-speed damping. As test manager at MYBIKE, Adrian also likes to think outside the box and tests cargo bikes and step-through bikes as well as the latest (e-)MTBs.
