The name Hardtrail is more than just a play on words for Drössiger. With 120 mm suspension travel on the fork and only eleven gears, the poison green eye-catcher is primarily designed for off-road use.

Schwalbe's high-quality Evolution tyres with Nobby Nic tread emphasise the singletrack orientation. Although the suspension fork releases the 120 millimetres of travel very quickly, the Drössiger leaves nothing to be desired on the descents. With a long wheelbase and plenty of grip, it surfs confidently through the narrow trees on the test lap. The steeper it gets, the more comfortable the Hardtrail feels, although the Magura brakes could be more powerful. In classic touring use, the trail machine suffers from the low gear range. With a 30 t chainring and a cassette with 11/42 teeth, you can climb adequately, but at speeds above 30 km/h you'll be cranking your heart out. The weight remains good despite the downhill-orientated design.

Conclusion: A hardtail consistently trimmed for the trail with guaranteed downhill fun. On tours, the 1x11 drivetrain lacks larger gears.

PLUS Clean look thanks to 1x11 gearing, more reserves in rough terrain
MINUS Narrow gear range, no handlebar lockout

The alternative: The HTA 29 2 has a conventional 100-millimetre fork and a 3x10 drivetrain with a high gear range. Price: 1649 euros.
