Five years ago Cube In 2017, there will be 109 different bikes with electric drives in the catalogue. According to Nico Lindner, Head of the e-bike division, the strong growth in the variety of models - especially in sales figures - is primarily due to the still young e-mountainbike category. Around 60 per cent of all e-bikes sold by Cube belong to the mountain bike genre with wide tyres and suspension elements. In 2017, the Upper Palatinate company is once again exclusively using Bosch motors. According to Cube, quality, service and performance are currently unrivalled on the market. New is a concept for better integration of battery and motor in the hardtails, as well as a carbon fully under 19 kilos.
Cube calls its new down tube "Gravity Casting", which is used in the hardtails of the Reaction Hybrid series and accommodates the motor and battery somewhat more discreetly than a normal round tube. Further advantages of the compact design: From frame size 18 inches (size M), a bottle cage can be fitted and all cables run elegantly inside the frame. A small disadvantage: the new design weighs around 500 grams more than last year.
As a further innovation, in 2017 Cube is fitting all E-MTBs with the new Purion display from Bosch. The significantly more compact design compared to the old displays is intended to emphasise the sporty image of the e-mountainbikes. The Elite Hybrid carbon hardtails remain unchanged for 2017, apart from the equipment. However, the entry-level carbon fibre model will be 300 euros cheaper. An Elite Hybrid bike will be available from 3299 euros in the coming season.
The aluminium frames of the Stereo Hybrid 120, 140 and 160 bikes remain unchanged for 2017, only the equipment varies. What is new, however, is a carbon Stereo Hybrid with 120 millimetres of suspension travel. The carbon fibre frame saves almost 2000 grams compared to its aluminium counterpart and thus enables the low weight of the complete bike of 18.6 kilos (manufacturer's specification) in the top version for 6399 euros.
Beginners can also be pleased: in addition to the Carbon Stereo, there is another Stereo-Hybrid 120 with an aluminium chassis and tyres in Plus format for more comfort and safety off-road. The Plus models are available from 3499 euros. As with the e-hardtails from Cube, the new Purion displays from Bosch are also used exclusively on the e-MTB fullys. Noticeable: Cube is increasingly focussing on Shimano's new 11-46 cassette, while the specific EX drivetrain from Sram is only used on a few models.
