BMC is trying to do just that with the Teamelite, a bike hybrid designed to combine the best of both worlds. The idea: an elastomer in the seat stays acts as a plasticiser. As soon as the test bikes are unloaded, the Ferrari red paintwork and eye-catching design are polarising. Like the sports car, the BMC is direct and playful in its handling thanks to its very short stem. Bunny hop? No problem! It climbs well, but subjectively doesn't have any more traction than the competition. When sprinting on tarmac, the rear end buckles noticeably. A little bit of propulsive energy is lost here. The fact that the BMC still goes fast is due to the massive and stiff bottom bracket. Downhill among the favourites of the pro testers.
ConclusionThe "comfort king" does not replace a fully. However, the system certainly offers greater protection against punctures.
PLUS Riding comfort, great frame, good detailed solutions
MINUS Rear thru axle can only be operated with tools
The alternative: If you can do without the damped rear triangle and top equipment, the Teamelite 02 XT is a reasonable race bike. It costs 3499 euros with a carbon frame and 22-speed XT drivetrain.
Professional conclusion: "The BMC Teamelite is an extremely comfortable and playful bike. The good damping and low front end predestine it for cross-country use. A great compromise between hardtail and fully."
