"Will I finally have gears like you?" asked Pepe, his eyes twinkling. "Unfortunately not, children who only fit on 16-inch bikes have to do without." No matter! After the first time on the bike, the lack of gears is forgotten. The gearing is perfect for Pepes' needs. It allows you to climb hills and master root passages, the only downer: the slightly lower top speed in the shootout on the flat.
With the switch from his 14-inch bike to the Hotrock, Pepes' riding safety has taken a big leap forward. Thanks to the low standover height and upright riding position, the off-road capability is excellent, but unfortunately the low-profile BMX tyres don't really fit. The distance between the pedals - racers speak of a high Q-factor - is very large and makes for a cowboy-like riding style. Pepe can also modulate the coaster brake well on slippery meadow descents, while the front brake remained untouched throughout the entire test period (despite being easy to reach).
Pepes Hotrock did not suffer any defects. Two flat front tyres can hardly be blamed on the manufacturer: with 16-inch wheels, high kerbs at high speeds are simply subject to abuse.
Robust children's mountain bike with good, all-terrain geometry. Small tours are also possible without any problems. The weight is high, but in comparison to other children's bikes it is okay.
