The Backfire from Centurion is a modern marathon racer with a lot of performance for the money; sensible details such as cable routing.

Instead of the sinfully expensive high-end model for 6500 euros, the Magstadt-based company sent the sensible version of the Backfire for 3399 euros to the test. The frame corresponds 1:1 to that of the German marathon champion Markus Kaufmann. On technical climbs, our testers immediately noticed the comfort of the rear triangle, which is mainly provided by the slim carbon seatpost. Despite the riser bar, the front remains very low and you get a lot of pressure on the front wheel. The 441 millimetre chainstays fit the bill and ensure that you don't have to worry about the front wheel climbing on steep climbs. The sensitive and forgiving Fox fork only lacks a handlebar lockout. On the other hand, our workshop praises the perfectly integrated cable routing: A laminated tube inside the frame saves time-consuming fiddling when changing cables. The triple crankset, on the other hand, makes far less sense for racers. Vogel says: "A 42 mm crankset is nonsense on a 29er." But the Backfire is equipped for the marathon start line.
