A good reason to take the Spaniards' race hardtail to the 4-Islands race. The model name of the Mondraker leaves no doubt as to its orientation: Podium Carbon. The visuals electrify the viewer no less than the Look. The stem blends in so perfectly with the line of the top tube that it only becomes apparent that it is a separate component when you turn in. The voluminous, angular down tube stands like a steel girder between the head tube and seat tube, inspiring confidence, while the top tube merges into delicate seat stays with a sharp bend. Great design art. But unlike the look, the Mondraker designers have dispensed with an integrated seatpost. This is simply for practical reasons. Another good thing: the podium offers space for two bottle cages.
Big surprise: As spectacular as the Podium looks, its handling is unspectacular. The geometry is balanced. The riding position is sporty, but by no means stretched. Directional commands are implemented with confidence. Although the Podium doesn't set any weight records, it still rides lively. The seating comfort does not come close to that of the Look. On the other hand, the front is even stiffer than that of its French cousin. The podium turns out to be a harmonious concept in the 4 Islands. The hammer look is practically on top. It requires no compromises. That's a good thing.
