Carbon hardtails up to 2500 euros
Expensive carbon frame, but favourable equipment. Six race hardtails around 2000 euros clarify in the BIKE test whether this mixture can really heat things up. (BIKE 10/2006)

"When it comes to lightweight construction," claims Scott developer Peter Denk, "we are even superior to Formula 1. They count in kilos, we count in grams." So much expertise has to be paid for, which drives up the prices of carbon bikes - in addition to the already expensive material. The test winner of the high-end bikes (BIKE 5/06), the Scott "Scale Limited", costs an impressive 5,100 euros. But not every biker is blessed with the budget of a Formula 1 team. That's why many manufacturers are now offering their carbon bikes at lower prices. The recipe: a high-quality frame with favourable equipment. But does it make sense to fit super-light high-tech frames with mid-range parts?

You can find these models in the PDF download.
Focus Raven Expert, Hai End, Merida Carbon Lite-V, Red Bull Monobox Carbon-600, Scott Scale 30, Storck Rebel Carbon

Addendum from BIKE 12/206:
FOCUS REBUILDS
In the test in BIKE 10/06 we criticised the tyres and the heavy wheels of the Focus "Raven Expert". Focus reacted quickly and will be fitting Schwalbe's "Nobby Nic" tyres from now on. www.focus-bikes.de
