When Canyon unveiled its very first e-MTB in 2018, some technology fanatics may have been disappointed. External battery, aluminium frame, classic look: the strengths of the Spectral:On clearly lay in its riding characteristics, good weight and fair prices. With the Grand Canyon:On, the Koblenz-based company is now presenting an e-MTB with an integrated battery for the first time. In the press release for the new e-hardtail, Canyon writes of the "first representative" of its "next generation of e-bikes", which even heralds a "new era in e-mountain biking". So you can probably already guess how the future Canyon E-Fullys will roll over the trail.
But back to the premiere hardtail. The Shimano E8000 motor is powered by the slim and lightweight BT-E8035 battery with 504 watt hours. Both drive components are housed in an aluminium frame that impresses with its attention to detail. The bike is aimed at sporty bikers who are looking for an affordable entry into the electrified E-MTB world.
The Grand Canyon:On is available in two equipment variants and also in a special version for women. The Grand Canyon:On 8.0 and Grand Canyon:On WMN 8.0 start at 2799 euros. The two entry-level models are equipped with ten-speed Shimano Deore gears and Rockshox Judy forks.
If you want to take your e-MTB into more serious terrain, you should opt for the Grand Canyon:On 9.0. A Fox 34 Rythm suspension fork, a telescopic seat post and Shimano's 12-speed drivetrain (SLX/XT) increase the bike's off-road capabilities enormously. Cost point here: 3299 euros.
