With its new carbon hardtail, Canyon has utilised the possibilities of the material when it comes to comfort. Because a carbon bike doesn't have to be hard and uncomfortable to ride. Canyon has rethought the frame: Large-volume and stiff in the bottom bracket area, the seat tube tapers sharply towards the top. A 27.2 millimetre slim seat post for sizes S and M (L and XL with 30.9 mm) provides noticeable and visible flex and therefore riding comfort. The seat stays are asymmetrical in accordance with the braking forces. The entire frame is very stiff and stable. The Acros headset with integrated steering angle limiter protects the top tube from damage caused by the handlebars turning over. The acceleration was impressive on the test lap: Thanks to the low overall weight and the very light DT carbon wheels with lightweight tyres, the bike literally shoots forwards. Downhill the conclusion is: it doesn't get much better than this with a hardtail. However, the braking traction with the slick tyres on the rear wheel is inadequate and requires an experienced rider who can use the slip in corners in a targeted manner.
CONCLUSIONS: With the Grand Canyon CF 9.0 LTD, Canyon has put one of the best race bikes of the season on its wheels. It utilises the possibilities of the material and is extremely agile and fast.
