While all the other bikes are already rolling round the test track with eleven sprockets on the cassette, the mail-order bike only has 2x10 gears available. Off-road, the smaller gear spread of the cassette forces you to switch between the small and large chainrings more often. The usual rear derailleur damping has also fallen victim to the cost-cutting programme. Despite the low price, Canyon doesn't show any weakness in the practical test. The 730 millimetre wide handlebar and the 70 millimetre long stem ensure excellent handling, while the riding position remains sporty. A slack head angle and the Rockshox Reba fork with 110 millimetres of travel make the Canyon smooth-running and provide a lot of confidence on the descents. Conti's Mountain and X-King tyres with high-quality Race Sport casing offer sufficient grip even in wet conditions.
Conclusionbalanced bike with very good riding characteristics. You have to accept compromises in the gearing.

The alternative: If 1200 euros is too expensive for you, you can get the Grand Canyon 6.9 version for 1100 euros. You have to make compromises, especially with the fork.
