High performance, smart features, top-class modulation: the motors from DJI subsidiary Avinox tick all the right boxes for e- (mountain) bikers. And when it comes to charging, the Chinese innovation powerhouse has pulled out all the stops: the 12-amp Fast Charger charges the battery from zero to 80 per cent in 90 minutes. This means that a bike with a flat battery is often ready for the next ride after a lunch break. The problem is that almost all manufacturers – apart from DJI’s own Amflow brand – only include the standard 4-amp charger in the box. With the exception of a few exorbitantly expensive top-of-the-range models.
This is also the case with YT, who have unveiled their first bike featuring DJI Avinox: the Decoy X. Only the exclusive Launch Edition with Fox Podium fork (reviewed here) came with the fast Avinox charger. Now YT is following suit and is including the fast charger (unit price 229 euros) with all Decoy X models, at least as part of a promotional offer. Anyone who orders by 31 August should benefit from this promotion. The same applies to all existing Decoy X customers.
What do you think: is fast charging really such a big selling point for e-MTBs? Or are most manufacturers on the right track when they choose to include the cheaper 4-amp charger and invest more in the bike’s features instead? Let us know in the comments!
