Mondraker is one of Bosch E-Bike-Systems' particularly good customers. The fact that the Spaniards are now also showing an e-MTB with an Avinox motor can therefore also be seen as a clear signal. The up-and-coming drive from China will become even more important in the current season! The Zendit is a powerful downhill E-Enduro that at first glance looks a lot like a the well-known cult model Crafty reminds us. But there are clear differences.
The Zendit is based on a new carbon frame construction (Stealth Air Carbon), which was specially developed and adapted for the integration of the Avinox motor. For the first time, Mondraker uses 6-axis CNC machines for drilling and finishing. The frame uses double-sealed Enduro Max bearings, which are already used on the DH model Summum.
One of the design details is the cable routing, which dispenses with the complicated integration in the headset. Internal, self-contained cable ducts (HHG) have been newly developed for the Zendit, which should make cable routing particularly unproblematic despite the permanently installed battery. This is particularly noticeable when servicing the bike. The chassis also has an integrated Avinox display in the top tube and a robust, rubberised frame guard.
The new e-mountainbike has 165 mm suspension travel on the rear wheel and 170 mm on the fork. The ZERO suspension kinematics have been adapted for the Avinox motor, with the virtual pivot point being adopted from the Summum frame. Tuning was carried out in collaboration with Fox, and the shocks are model-specific to the kinematics (Float X on the RR/RR S, Float X2 on the XR model). A 36 mm chainring is intended to increase the durability of the drivetrain, while optimised anti-squat values influence pedalling comfort.
The Zendit comes with a mullet set-up as standard (29" front, 27.5" rear), but can be converted to full 29-inch. The chainstay lengths are staggered according to size. In sizes S, M and M/L, the rear triangle measures 450 mm. In sizes L and XL, the stays grow to 455 mm. Two flip chips allow geometry adjustments: A lower flip chip extends the chainstays by 7 mm for optional 29" rear wheels. A second flip chip varies the steering angle by 0.35° and the bottom bracket height by 5 mm.
The Zendit is available in the RR, RR S and XR equipment variants. The prices are ambitious, starting at 8499 euros for the Zendit RR. What's special here is that even the entry-level model comes with extremely high-quality Fox Factory suspension and wireless radio control. However, you have to make concessions with the cheap aluminium wheels and the slower Avinox charger. The two more expensive models, the RR S for €10,499 and the XR for €12,499, both have the classy Fox Podium Factory upside-down suspension fork.
The fact that even Mondraker, known for years as a particularly loyal Bosch partner, is now presenting a power e-bike with an Avinox drive emphasises the urgent power of the new drive manufacturer. The Zendit will cause a sensation among the downhill e-MTBs, as excellent suspension and high riding performance have already characterised Mondraker e-bikes in many BIKE tests. It's a shame that the Spanish company has decided not to offer a more affordable entry-level model.
