A very special app run is taking place this year in Saalbach, where mountain bike pro and YouTube star Fabio Wibmer is running against the virtual Catcher Car with motivated amateur runners.
The Wings for Life World Run has been taking place around the world every year since 2014. In this unique format, the run starts simultaneously all over the world and each participant decides for themselves how far they want to run, as there is no fixed finish line. Instead of running towards a finish line, the participants run side by side in front of the so-called Catcher Car. The catcher car starts 30 minutes after the start at a speed of 14 km/h and constantly increases its speed until the last runner has been caught up. Anyone who is overtaken is eliminated from the race. But winning is secondary, because by taking part in the race you are running for as long as you can for those who can't do it themselves. 100% of the donations and entry fees go directly to spinal cord research projects with the aim of curing paraplegia.
If you don't want to or can't take part in one of the big runs in cities such as Munich or Vienna, since 2016 you have had the opportunity to take part in an organised app run or simply on your own personal home run and compete against a virtual catcher car. Simply download the app, register for a 20 euro entry fee and run or roll away from the virtual catcher car for as long as you can. All information about participating with the app can be found at www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/app.
A very special app run is taking place in Saalbach, where fans and friends can run together with mountain bike pro and YouTube star Fabio Wibmer for a good cause. The race in Fabio's bike home starts at 13:00 at the Heimathaus in Saalbach and leads along the tarmac promenade to Hinterglemm. There is a refreshment station in Hinterglemm and also the turnaround back to Saalbach. One loop is just over 4 kilometres long and largely flat.
Fabio Wibmer:
"As an athlete, I know how quickly accidents can happen - whether on the trail or in city traffic. Many people may even have a friend, acquaintance or relative who has suffered such a fate and is therefore no longer able to walk. In my case, it's my manager Tarek Rasouli, who has been in a wheelchair since a mountain bike accident.
I would therefore like to invite you all to join me in Saalbach for the Wings for Life World Run to raise funds for the Wings for Life Foundation and spinal cord research. Together we can make paraplegia curable and have a lot of fun at the same time. Is there anything better?"
Manuel Hirner, event manager in Saalbach Hinterglemm:
"The Wings for Life World Run is not about being the best. It's about doing good together. We hope that as many people as possible will be motivated to take part so that we can contribute to the greater good. Whether it's one, two or 15 kilometres, half marathon or marathon. The important thing here is simply to be there."
