The Trek Session has always been a safe bet. It was fast, but manoeuvrable enough to be fun for freeriders too. In short: a fast fun machine.
The Session 9.9 costs a fortune. If you don't have a cash cow in your cellar, you'll have to go for the Session 88. Price: 4500 €.Photo: Daniel Simon The Session 9.9 costs a fortune. If you don't have a cash cow in your cellar, you'll have to go for the Session 88. Price: 4500 €.

Will the new 27.5T Trek also succeed in achieving this mix? We had our doubts when we looked at the spec sheet. Trek recommended size L for riders over 1.75 metres tall. The longest wheelbase, the longest chainstays and the longest top tube in the test field - no wonder Fischi was happy about the smooth ride during the speed check. All leisure captains know that length matters. Fischi set the second-fastest time and praised the potent rear end of the red speedster. 210 millimetres of travel squeeze out of the shock, which is held in check by the chainstays and seat stays. Here Trek has also installed a so-called Mio-Link, an adjustment screw for quick geometry changes (the steering angle can be slackened, the bottom bracket lowered). But we amateur big bikers liked the bike. On the contrary: the reach is comfortable and the riding position seems rather compact compared to Mondraker or Specialized. So the all-clear: The Session is a lot of fun in the park, puts a lot of pressure on the front wheel and is easy to rock through the air. Only the manual doesn't work so well. You have to pull like a beast to get it up!

CONCLUSIONThe Trek inspires us all - World Cup downhillers, amateur racers and park rats. It's no longer as playful as it used to be, but the mix of downhill bike and playmate works!

Strengths fast, smooth running, geometry
Weaknesses difficult to get on the rear wheel

Braking power: We liked the powerful Saint brakes on the extra-wide carbon handlebars of the Trek Session. It's a shame that these powerful stoppers with their pleasant ergonomics are so rarely fitted.Photo: Daniel Simon Braking power: We liked the powerful Saint brakes on the extra-wide carbon handlebars of the Trek Session. It buffers everything, calms you down, but still develops a lot of counter-pressure and pop.Photo: Daniel Simon Tranquilliser: The Trek has a rear suspension that does exactly what it's supposed to do.
