The new E-Downhiller: Pole Voima
With suspension travel like a downhiller and a milled aluminium frame, Pole is setting new standards in the E-MTB world.

Milling a frame for an E-MTB from aluminium? No one has ever thought of that before. But the Finns from Pole are taking the concept they have already developed with the conventional Enduro Stamina have established themselves consistently. However, the Voima (Finnish for strength) is not only remarkable for its frame, which is milled in Finland and bonded from two half-shells. Pole's first e-MTB is also anything but ordinary in other respects. The suspension travel of 190 millimetres at the front and rear borders on that of a downhill bike, despite the single crown fork. In combination with the 29-inch wheels, the aggressive geometry and the typical E-MTB smoothness, extreme speeds should also be possible on rough downhills.

Nevertheless, the Voima should also cut a fine figure uphill. To this end, the seat angle is extremely steep at 80 degrees and the rear triangle with virtual pivot point has been specially designed to be drive-neutral. Propulsion is provided by Brose's Drive S Mag, which draws its energy from a BMZ battery with 725 watt hours. The latter is removed from the top of the down tube for better protection from the elements. Suspension components from Rockshox, brakes and drivetrain from Sram round off the equipment of the standard models. Complete bikes will change hands for 8990 euros and should weigh a maximum of around 25 kilograms, depending on the frame size. That would be more than decent for an aluminium bike with a large battery, downhill attitude and stable components.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
