Parkbike duel: Alutech Sennes vs Commencal Furious
We threw Alutech and Commençal into the pit like two fighting cocks and didn't pay much attention to the how and what. Facts: Mail-order big bikes, 27.5 inch, top models.

Crazy times! The Covid-19 virus continues to plague us and paralyse our economy just because some Chinese person had to eat a bat sandwich at some market on some day. If he had ordered rice balls, we might have been spared the whole thing. But because things are the way they are, we are now finding it difficult to find new bikes to pit against each other. Unfortunately, in this duel between Alutech and Commençal, it was only partially successful.

Why only partially successful? Well, Alutech designer Jürgen Schlender sees his Sennes as a thoroughbred racehorse, a downhill bike that wants to hear the stopwatch ticking. The name abbreviation "RR" indicates this: "ready to race". In contrast, the Commençal Furious is aimed more at park riders and describes itself as "the ideal bike for the park and for having fun", but with the addition: "Downhill racing - no problem!". Commençal and Alutech are both mail-order companies, both roll on 27.5-inch wheels, and both test bikes are top models (despite a considerable price difference), so we thought a fair test was definitely possible.

Eye-catcher Commencal: Clear, sensible, functional - the Furious doesn't look like rocket science and as "sophisticated" as its big brother Supreme DH, but the Furious suspension manages a good mix of riding comfort, counter-pressure and pop for jumps.Photo: Ronny Kiaulehn Eye-catcher Commencal: Clear, sensible, functional - the Furious doesn't look like rocket science and as "sophisticated" as its big brother Supreme DH, but the Furious suspension manages a good mix of riding comfort, counter-pressure and pop for jumps.

It seems that Alutech boss Jürgen Schlender has sent his classic big bike Sennes to a plastic surgeon. Because like many a Hollywood star, the bike looks completely different after the operation than it did before. Instead of curved, round tubes - this! We didn't even know that aluminium tubes could be pressed into such shapes. The oil squeezer makes it possible!

Eye-catcher Alutech: The components of the Alutech no longer have anything in common with tubes, they have been chased through the oil press with such ingenuity. This gives the Sennes a high eye-catching factor in the lift queue. The rear triangle length can be varied. We changed it to "short". This awakened the bike's play instinct.Photo: Wolfgang Watzke Eye-catcher Alutech: The components of the Alutech no longer have anything in common with tubes, they have been chased through the oil press with such ingenuity. You can download the duel between Alutech Sennes and Commencal Furious from FREERIDE 4/2020 as a PDF below the article. The test costs 1.49 euros.

Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in FREERIDE. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them, namely tens of thousands of euros every year.
