Scale 26" and 29''
The battle for the lightest carbon frame continues
The new Scale top frame is said to weigh just 899 grams, making it the lightest on the market today. Scott has redesigned the frame from the ground up and eliminated practically all aluminium parts in the bearing shells, dropouts and brake mounts. Scott calls the production method that makes the low weight possible the Integrated Moulding Process.
At the same time, the frame will offer 30 per cent more riding comfort compared to the previous scale, a trend that every carbon manufacturer has now recognised. The Swiss achieve this with slim seat stays and a thin-walled comfort seat post. If you like it harder, take a standard seat post.
Scott is also offering the next trend, namely the 29er, in 2011. Like the 26-inch model, the Scale will also be launched with 29er wheels, with the lighter of the two available frames weighing just 949 grams, which would also be a record.
A total of ten Scale models are planned, including a Contessa women's version and two 29ers. The 8,000 euro Limited model with DT carbon wheels and SRAM XX groupset should weigh just 7.5 kilos (26 inches).
AttentionFrom model Scale 10 upwards, heavier fibres are used (1100 grams), only the two top models really manage the 899 grams.
